Rhino & Hamster's Diary

19th March 2007

Well it’s been a couple of days now since the Australia game. Having had a few chats to the lads, the feelings are of mixed emotions. There is always that sense of that we could of and should of have done a lot better.
We had a pretty good day with the ball and in the field. We felt 300 was always going to be a good effort against such a powerful batting line up. But the way they played in the final few overs took the sting out of a pretty good battling performance. It was always going to be a tough chase, so on 46 for 5 it was near on impossible. It is an area of our game were we know we have to improve.

The feedback from all the supporters out here is very positive and that they had a great day out etc, but we know we can perform a lot better and are really not doing ourselves any justice. On such a big stage it is a great opportunity to show how much Scottish cricket has come on. But we can't lose sight of the quality of opposition. Both myself and Ryan have played against some quality bowling attacks in the past but none as relentless as this one with no breathing space and very few bad balls. The only saving grace is that we both got out to a semi decent bowler with only 500 test wickets!
But let's be honest it's not all bad, we could not look in any direction without seeing Deuchars t-shirts or caps.

The advertising was lead from the front by the SWAGS (Scottish wives and girlfriends) who tried at every opportunity to get themselves on television, and by the sounds of things they were on more than us! Not so sure the ICC are overly thrilled about the marketing tactics but might be a little late for that with half of St. Kitts wearing the dark blue colours of Caledonian.

With a few days before the next game we have a lot to work and will be doing all we can to get the top order firing and get ourselves competing to a level where we can walk away from the ground feeling a sense of pride from our performance.

All in all the lads are still generally upbeat about the whole thing and are still really enjoying the experience that a World Cup brings. The new hotel is yet another 5 star, (getting bit boring now!) and the hospitality is second to none with a lobster and champagne lunch on the agenda yesterday with a couple of hours on the beach to follow up. So things are still very pleasant for us in the Carribean.

Anyway once again BE COOL and will be reporting back soon.

Hamster.
